It's kinda been awhile since I wrote anything, but it's not cuz I haven't had anything to say, I have, I've just been so tired form work I haven't had the energy. For the most part I like my job and the people I work with, but it is an extremely physically demanding job, and I come home pretty exhausted. I was so tired all the time that my friend Jen thought I might be anemic. I started some iron supplements and there has been a bit of improvement in my energy, but my job still leaves me feeling pretty wiped out at the end of the day.
It's my day off today, and it's 7:00am, and I just can't sleep. I'm used to going to bed at 10:00 and waking up at 6:00, so sleeping in on my days off is near impossible. I was just tossing and turning and I'm sure Eric did not appreciate it, so I thought I'd finally come on here and update my blog.
Let's see...
Steve and Cara's Visit
Back in the first week of February (woo I'm really behind), our wonderful friends Steve and Cara came to visit. It was so nice to see them again (they were missed) and to have some friendly faces around for a few days. They came at a really great time cuz there was still TONS of snow, but the -40 weather had passed and the temperature was quite reasonable.
We bundled up in snowpants and parkas, so we could go out and enjoy the winter weather. We took a long walk through the snow in Hawrelak park, and rented some skates to go skating on the frozen lake. I think all of us eventually ended up on the ice but it was a lot Of fun. We went to the pub afterwards for a few drinks, and then went home and played cheesy board games.
Saturday morning we went to the farmers market in our neighborhood for Ukrainian sausage, and picked up some cheese curds so we could make poutine for lunch. Haven't had that in years and I've never had it Steve's way with ground beef and peas. Outside the farmers market is a small square and they had some ice sculptures up. They didn't compare to the ones in Ottawa that I used to go see every winter, but Steve and I had fun sliding down the kiddie slide made of ice. I had to work the last day they were in town but Eric took them to the West Edmonton Mall (which I've finally seemed to have cured my addition of) where the boys enjoyed the shooting range and Cara enjoyed some shopping. It was sad to see them go but only a few more months until we are back in Vancouver for their wedding and then soon after that we will be back living in Vancouver again.
Andrea and Mark's visit
Early in March, Andrea and Mark came up from Calgary to visit. Andrea just quit her crummy job so she bused up on Wednesday afternoon and Mark drove up on Friday. Wednesday Andrea and I went out for wings and beer with a friend of hers who lives here. He called us "clients" and charged our bill to his company credit card which was really nice of him. The next day we of course went shopping at West Edmonton Mall. We were going to go out that night to the Rum Jungle (there was some big party) but I was soooooo tired (this is when Jen thought I might be anemic) that I just couldn't do it. We went shopping on Whyte Ave the next day and then Mark arrived late afternoon. I was finally able to give him his Christmas present (it arrived after I went to see them for New Years).
Saturday we went to this big flea market up by my work that I had heard was a great place to go....but it was terrible. It was like a really crappy garage sale and thrift store combined in one. It was all junk. The junk wasn't even reasonably priced either. Who wants to buy a used VHS video for $12.00 from there when they can get one for the same or less at Blockbuster, and it has a guarantee? We didn't stay long. We went to the Odyssium instead. It's a big science centre right across the street from my work. Andrea wasn't feeling too well but Mark and I had fun running around like kids. They too left on Sunday while I had to work.
St. Patty's day in Calgary
My friend Heather was in Calgary for a few days to visit and go skiing with Andrea and mark, so I drove down there for a few days as well. I arrived on St. Patty's day and so we went out to celebrate. We wore matching green tanks tops that said St Patty's day ($5.00 at Old Navy, what a steal), feather boas, mardi gras beads, and funny hats. Actually I wore my red wig and Andrea and Heather wore the hats. We started out at a bar called the ship and then later went to Aussie rules. Our outfits were a big hit at both bars. I even won a free drink at Aussie rules cuz the piano guy liked my wig. Since we started at 3:00, by 10:30 we were soo tired we had to go home.
The next day we went shopping (of course) while we waited for Mark to get off work at noon. Then we went to the racetrack and went go-carting. Not the lame kiddie carts, but real go-carting where you need a drivers license. I had never been before (not even on the kiddie carts) so it was pretty exciting for me. We each got 30 laps that passed by way too fast. I can't believe I'd never been before, it was soooo much fun.
The next day they went skiing in Banff and I headed home, cuz being Saturday I had to work the next day.
Jon and Peg's visit
A few weeks ago Jon and Peg came up to Edmonton to pick up a car for Jon's work, and so they spent the night with us. It was so weird to think that the last time we'd seen them was Thanks-giving, cuz it didn't seem like 5 months had already gone by. We just had some dinner and hung out, but it was really nice to see them again. They let they next morning while I was at work
So yeah it's been a great few months with all the visitors, I've just been too lazy to write it all down until now. I've also been a bit scrapbook obsessed. I finally got all the photos developed that I want to scrapbook and I've been spending most of my free time at it. I have so many pictures thought hat they have to be divided into three albums. I finished the honeymoon album in the fall, I just finished the pre-wedding activities (stagette, showers, tip to Seattle etc.) and now I'm working on the wedding album. If anyone readying this has any photos they would lie, to e-mail me of themselves at my wedding that would be great as I didn't have my camera and so only have pictures from Candice, Andrea and Jen. This means the photos are pretty wedding party biased and I would love some great shots of my friends enjoying themselves at the wedding.
Speaking of scrapbooking, I think I'll go work on a few pages.....
