So I'm home form work today with a sore neck/back and thought I'd finally get around to writing an update. I don't know what I did to myself but I woke up this morning so sore I could barely move my head, so I had to call in sick. I felt a bit bad cuz one of the other kennel staff is on Holidays, but I can't really be of much help to them anyways so not much choice.
Work was going pretty crummy for awhile. One of my supervisors was going through a really rough spot (troubles with her daughter) and was making life absolutely miserable for everyone else. She tends to pick on one person at a time while ignoring everyone else, and lucky me I was the one getting picked on. She would get mad at me for absolutely no reason at all and was constantly trying to find things to yell at me for. She was basically treating me like dirt. I was so miserable at work that I was on the verge of quitting. Luckily there are a few really nice girls there who helped me out a lot and my supervisor finally went on meds and all has returned to normal. She's still a bitch at heart but at least she isn't directing it at me (or anyone else specific) anymore.
Since Eric has finished his exams I've been able to spend a lot more time with him, which has been really great. Two weeks ago we went down to Calgary for a few days to visit Mark abnd Andrea. We spent Friday wandering around the Calgary zoo, and on Saturday we had a picnic in the park and played Bocce ball.
This week we went to see Star Wars 3 (it was very good) and then went out to dinner at this place called Dadd-e-o's. It's a Cajun restaurant and the food was fantastic. Their catfish and sweet potato fries are amazing.
Yesterday we drove out to Tofield (1/2 hour east of Edmonton)to the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village. The weather was so amazing I've actually got a sunburn. It was such a great place. They had three different areas showing three different time periods. The first area was all homesteads. A homestead usually had one house, one grain building, and one barn. The houses were quite small, and were made of wood and mud. The whole family slept, ate and lived in one small room.
The next area was more modern. The houses were a bit larger and made entirely of wood and were painted. These houses had three or four rooms instead of the one tiny room.
The third area was the most recent and was a small town. They had churches, a lumber mill, a grainery, a blacksmiths shop, a train station, a sheriffs office, and the houses were much fancier. One of them had 7 bedrooms plus a fancy living room and kitchen.
Each of the buildings had people in them who were dressed and acting like someone out of that period. They were totally in character and were not allowed to break character or answer any questions that were more modern than their time period. It was very amusing. They were actually baking bread, making Borscht, and planting potatoes. It was a very cool experience. After we saw the museum we filled up on
pedeheh and holopchi (perogies and cabbage rolls)
When we got home my sister came to visit. She's in town this week-end for a mountain biking clinic so she's staying with us. Conveniently enough the clinic is a half a block from our house. We went for a walk up Whyte Ave and ended up having dinner at Dadd-e-o's again.
Well, my neck is getting very sore here so I'm going to post a few pictures of the museum and then go lie down for a bit.
