The Year of the Pig

Eric and I rung in a very pleasant Chinese New Year with Ed and MoMoe this year. We went down to Chinatown on Feb 18th and watched the parade, had some dim sum (yum), shot confetti canons into the crowds, and watched the Chinese dragons/lions bring good luck to the stores by eating lettuce hanging in the store front windows. We laughed our asses off on the way home as we shot our confetti cannons out the window and all over the car behind us. Whoops! It was so nice to finally spend time with two again.

In keeping with the theme of this year, we added another pig to our family. Unfortunately my old timer pig "Sage" (who was 7 years old) passed away while we were on holiday. I knew her time was almost up but it was pretty hard to some home from vacation and find out she was gone. One of my other pigs "Hazel" is battling the big C. She's already had 3 minor surgeries and had 4 cancerous lumps removed from her abdomen, but they are melanoma and that kind of cancer spreads so fast you can't treat it. She already has another mass forming but we've decide not to put her through the stress of another surgery and to keep her comfortable for as long as we have her.

So with bad news for two of my pigs, it was hard to resist when a client of mine wanted me to adopt a baby pig from her. She had adopted two guinea pigs awhile back from a pet store and in typical pet store style found out that her two girls were in fact a boy and a girl when the girl had babies. I absolutely fell in love with one of the little girls and I could not resist taking her home.

I was worried Eric would say no but with the recent loss of Sage and with Hazel being poorly, he was in a pig accepting mood and once he laid eyes on her her he had to admit she was pretty adorable and said I could keep her. I've named her Mabel. She is the tiniest sweetest little thing and I adore her already. One of my pigs (Violet) doesn't get on too well with my other 3 pigs but she gets along with the baby so it worked out really well as she finally has company again.

Her name is Mabel. Look how cute she is!!!
